Teletherapy

Teletherapy uses video calling to provide therapeutic support to individuals while they remain in their own homes (or chosen private locations).  Depending on the individual's needs and preferences, the individual may be asked to bring a few items from the home into the online therapy session. A resource kit may be provided, and items may be recommended before therapy commences.  The therapist then supports the individual in creating, talking, and/or playing with these items in a way that enables them to explore, heal, and develop new skills and self-awareness.

Teletherapy can also provide a way of connecting with parents, carers, professionals or significant others to provide one-off or regular therapy support when face-to-face sessions are not viable due to difficulties like childcare, travel, etc. or when unexpected challenges suddenly arise, e.g. during school holidays.

It is worth recognising that Teletherapy can be challenging for some children under six years to engage with, as they are expected to undertake the therapy online on their own, but sometimes it can be effective with younger children.  Some older children and adults may find online therapy challenging to engage with or need support during therapy sessions to set up video conferencing on a phone, tablet or computer, so a contact number is helpful.

“Every child deserves a champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be.”
